Meet the On Kona Warriors.
Ironman Hawaii – World Championships and Triathlon's most iconic event. During the next few days, all eyes will be on Kona, where our athletes will compete on the world stage. Please meet the On Kona Warriors.
Frederik Van Lierde The Ironman Champion of the year 2013 is back in Kona for the 8th time. And to him, it feels like coming home. “I’ve had my greatest triathlon experience ever here, so I’m always looking forward to this event. It’s for 8 years in row I’m starting here and I’m getting more and more experienced. The feedback I got from my body during the training towards the Ironman in South Africa and the following result make me confident for the upcoming championship”. As a former World Champion, Freddy’s goal is of course to double up his title. But how does one prepare for such a challenge? “I spent the last two weeks in Phoenix to get used to the heat and also did my last key sessions over there. Since last Friday I’m back on Big Island and prepare myself for the big race on Saturday. I am really looking forward to race and I will do everything to actually win it!”. Frederik’s pick for Saturday will be the Cloudracer. “I always was a good runner, but with On’s Cloudracer I can go even faster and further without risking injuries. So this shoe is my perfect companion for my big day.“

Mary Beth Ellis
Mary Beth Ellis, known to the triathlon world as MB, is an ITU Long Distance World Champion, eight-time Ironman Champion, and former American record holder at the Ironman distance. So it’s safe to say that MB is already an established Kona athlete. “Oh man, I am so happy to be back, I do not even remember how many times I raced here in Kona. I guess I am the oldest pro here…(laughing)”. No matter how much older she is, her this year’s results are showing great improvement. It seems like under the coaching of Brett Sutton, MB is getting back stronger and stronger. “I cannot wait to get back into the race and nail it. I have been here with On for over 4 years and to be honest, I just believe that one of my best secret is the Cloudracer. It’s simply the lightest and fastest shoe I’ve ever run in. But this year I have chosen to race in the Cloud model, since I spent lots of time in the Cloud. I believe that this will be the next step into a faster run split. I will do my best to end up top 5 or on the podium.”
Train like MB: 6am: wake up and coffee time 7am: 10km run 8.30am: breakfast 11am: swim session 1pm: lunch and feet up 3pm: bike session on the home trainer 6pm: dinner 9pm: bedtime Caroline “Xena” Steffen Caroline is a two-time ITU Long Course World Champion, two-time IRONMAN Champion, two time IRONMAN European Champion, two-time IRONMAN World Championship Hawaii runner-up, Challenge Roth Champion, and IRONMAN Australia Champion. It goes without saying that Xena is an experienced athlete and always ready to “go to war” on a triathlon course. Since 2012, Caroline trains and competes in On shoes. "My Cloudracers are the key to the fact that I could expand my running and now can also exploit my full potential in the marathon. My run feels more explosive and my legs feel better at the finish line." And how does she feel to be back in Kona? “I can’t wait to race on Saturday. I’m ready to switch into warrior mode. As soon as I have the chip on my ankle, I’m ready to go and the gun goes off,” she says, “I’m different when racing. I feel that. It’s like two totally different people.” OK then, go hard or go home!

Tim Don Tim lives the fight. He is one of the bravest talents, often attacking from the front on the bike to stir up the action. His willingness to take races by the scruff of the neck lets a strong character shine through. To be in Kona is a dream coming true to him. “It was always my vision to be here in Kona and race with the big names. Here I am. I was injured at the IM 70.3 World Championship and could not perform properly. So now this is a game changer. I had a great preparation for this race back home in Boulder. A few weeks ago I arrived in Hawaii to prepare even better. I have done lots of speed work sessions in the Cloud model, and to be honest, I am extremely happy to say that I am still injury free and feel perfectly fine although I did such a high value of kilometers per week. Seriously, this is the best ever shoe I ran in. So there’s no need to say that the Cloud will be my choice for the race. I cannot wait to get in front of the field and become new world champion!"
