“I prefer big goals. It’s a physical and mental build up to a competition! I
need competition!”

Frederik Van Lierde talks about intensive training phases and having a family at the same time.

It's something we are used to hear from succesful women. How to find the right balance between job, passion and family? But also men are confronted with it. Being a professional triathlete, a dad and a husband at the same time is not easy for sure. Frederik Van Lierde is lucky to have a supporting wife and that his family are also his fans:

“It’s all about organization! Being a triathlete is a lifestyle and my wife and our two sons just love it! So whenever it’s possible they’re with me for racing or training. They’re my mental support and my shelter where I can really be the dad and husband and not only the triathlete.”

Without the support of his family it would be much harder for Frederik Van Lierde to follow his passion. Frederik really loves what he is doing, no matter if it is training or competition.

“I love both. Doing a training camp for over three weeks with many kilometers is something I look really forward to. But then, I also need a goal and I prefer big goals. It’s a physical and mental build up to a competition! And I need competition!”

Although it is not his best discipline, Frederik loves to run. He used to be a swimmer since he is 8 years old, but he also participated in running competitions since his very early years. And what is it that he loves about running?

„The freedom and the diversity! You can run everywhere at any time with anyone you want! Isn’t that fantastic?“

We certainly agree..
