Bella & Stephen Bayliss

Known as the Iron Couple, Stephen and Bella are Britain’s most successful Ironman Couple with Bella holding 16 Ironman Titles and a world ITU Championship and Stephen holding four. Both are challenging themselves for more.

Growing up in Aberdeenshire, Bella Comerford was obsessed with sport from an early age and fell in love with triathlon. Not without success: she won the Ironman Florida five times and Embrunman twice. Meanwhile, at almost the other end of the country in Croydon, Stephen Bayliss was also a sports addict and equally obsessed with the discipline of triathlon, notching up an impressive record of national triathlon and cycling results.

Stephen and Bella met at the World ITU Championships in Sweden in 2004 and together with their coach Brett Sutton, toured the world, competing and training and picking up Ironman titles and podium places as they went. 2008, the Iron Couple got married in Perth, Scotland. Their love seems to give them wings: Stephen entered the yearm which he describes as his biggest achievement in sports and won his first Ironman title, swiftly followed by a second a few months later and Bella winning another 8 Ironman titles. 2011, Bella gave birth to their son who is frequently to be seen accompanying Mum and Dad’s training regime in his pushchair. Three years ago, the couple joined the On Family. “I love On shoes, they allow me to run in a very comfortable way and I don’t have to deal with injuries anymore. I can not imagine wearing anything else since wearing On”, says Bella.

It all sounds like a perfect fairy tale. While Stephen is still challenging himself for more wins as an athlete, Bella took up a new challenge by coaching others. “When I was still racing, I always wanted to be the best I could be - I loved to win! As a coach, I try to pass on that attitude and to help my athletes to be the best they can be and to get the best from themselves”.

On is proud to be part of the Iron Couple’s journey and excited to see what’s coming up next. May they run on clouds!
