Tim Don - World Champion Triathlet
Tim lives the fight. He is one of the bravest talents, often attacking from the front on the bike to stir up the action. His willingness to take races by the scruff of the neck lets a strong character shining through.
Through his swift and easy running style, it was soon clear that Tim was marked out for great things. He quickly gained a reputation for being one of the boldest emerging talents, regularly attacking from the front on the bike to fuel the battle. This characteristic often lead to second places instead of winnings as more canny athletes took advantage of his sometimes nearly headless attacks. Also, bad luck kept chasing Tim. Stolen bikes, crashes, broken bones and slipped discs made it a tough journey for the triathlete. Tim had to call upon his mental reserves and made some strong decisions. Later, he would call those disastrous years "the best thing that ever happened to me," as he reconsidered everything he had been doing up to that point. One of those decisions included to split with his coaches and to fight on his own. Coaching and racing himself back to fitness with good results, Tim returned stronger, happier and more relaxed than ever. After many years at the height of short-course triathlon, Don took the step to half Ironman distance, and in 2014 took bronze at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. This result, together with a string of other top performances and a win at his debut Ironman in Mallorca, secured Don a spot at his first Ironman World Championships in 2015. Today, after 16 years of competing, he is one of the most prolific British triathletes of recent times, three times Olympic athlete, World Duathlon, Aquathlon and Triathlon Champion and five-time British champion. Tim Don has joined the On family in 2015. Talking of his new partnership with On, Don states: "I am definitely ready to run on clouds! The transition to On shoes was seamless. In fact, one of the first runs in the shoes was a marathon on a treadmill. The technology of the On shoes allowed me to avoid the day after soreness that typically comes with a marathon, let alone a treadmill marathon. I’m excited to be on a team that continues to push the technology envelope with shoes!”. It will be excellent to see Tim competing in On shoes at the Ironman World Championships this year alongside multi-time champion Fredrik van Lierde. May they run on clouds!
